He knew about this electronics stuff. He had two new cables and a splitter. He proceeded to set the VCR to channel four, as there was nothing on channel four on the cable. He just didn’t know one had nothing to do with the other. Next, he used one cable to connect the output jack of the VCR to the splitter. The cable from the wall went into the other input to the splitter, and with the last cable, Billy Bob connected the output of the splitter to the television. That wasn’t how the VCR’s owner’s manual had shown how to connect it, but it did work – aside from not being able to record anything showing on the cable. Technically, a “splitter” either added two signals together, or took the signal from one cable and fed it into two other electronic devices.
